Poongkhulali B.

Poongkhulali B. is an attorney based in Chennai. She practices at various fora including the Madras High Court, the Sessions Courts, the Magistrate Courts, the Family Courts and the District and State Consumer Forum. She has been actively involved in writ proceedings pertaining to the status of women prisons in Tamil Nadu and the Public Interest Litigations questioning a series of encounter killings in Tamil Nadu, the working of the 'holiday family courts', among others. She works closely with several non-governmental organisations engaged in the cause of marginalised groups and regularly conducts legal sensitisation programmes. She has written a series of columns for 'The Hindu' under the title 'Women in law'. She studied law at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore where she was involved with the Legal Services Clinic and was awarded the Noble Student Gold Medal for legal aid work. She also was elected president of the Student Bar Association at NLSIU.
